This massive binocular was the largest design that was produced by the Japanese Navy and was produced in very small quantities.  This is one of the few pieces known to be in existence.

In the 1930's the Imperial Japanese Navy began investing heavily into the development of Big Eye Binoculars to give them a tactical advantage in Naval warfare.  These massive optical instruments would be permanently mounted on the deck of their most prized battleships.   These amazing optical instruments would enable the users to see over 50 miles on a clear day to protect from incoming enemy aircraft.  

These 180 mm massive binoculars were designed with Cooke f4.5 triple element objectives and double turret oculars providing 22.5x and 30x magnification were produced in minimal quantities by the Japanese military. The real fields are 2.6 and 2 degrees, respectively. The 180 mm instrument has Porro Il prism systems.
