Japanese Imperial Navy Optics, Preserved

In 1942, Nippon Kogaku K.K. produced what many historians and collectors regard as some of the finest naval optical instruments of the Pacific Theater. A limited number were mounted on Imperial Japanese Navy vessels – used by sailors scanning the horizon for incoming Allied aircraft.

The “Big Eye” design represented the peak of wartime optical innovation.
